It looks like we are getting a new Yu Yu Hakusho live-action series soon. This is because Netflix has announced that they will be adapting Yoshihiro Togashi’s classic shounen manga, Yu Yu Hakusho, into a live-action series. They plan to stream the series globally, though they did not reveal when exactly this will happen. Netflix contents acquisition director Kazutaka Sakamoto will serve as executive producer, with Akira Morii serving as producer over at Robot.
Sakamoto says that he is a fan of the original manga, and even noted he grew up reading it. He also noted how popular the series is all over Asia. He also said that Netflix is now assembling the “Best” team for the project, including talents from Japan and other parts of the world.
Office ENDLESS previously produced a live-action 2.5D stage play. Here was the visual to that play:
The live-action play was so successful that it has even inspired a second part. They have begun performances already from December 4-15, 2020 at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel Stellar Ball in Tokyo. It will then head to Cool Japan Park Osaka WW Hall in Osaka from December 18-20, before its final performances at the Kyoto Gekijou Theater in Kyoto from December 23-30.
Chuuji Mikasano, who wrote and supervised the script for the Tokyo Ghoul anime, will be both directing and writing the script for the second stage play. It will be adapting the manga’s The Beasts of Maze Castle and Recue Yukina arc.
Netflix is also currently streaming the classic 90’s TV anime adaptation of the manga as well.
