The upcoming Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time movie may be delayed (AGAIN), but that doesn’t mean that the staff have stopped promoting the movie. In fact, they just released a brand new TV commercial during the TV broadcast of Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance. The video also previews Utada Hikaru’s new theme song for the movie, “One Last Kiss”.
The movie itself has finished recording dialogue last November. Previously, director and creator Hideaki Anno stated that the anime will be coming later than expected. The movie was supposed to open in Japan on June 27, 2020 after eight years of waiting. Unfortunately, COVID-19 delayed the anime a bit further, and they moved the premiere in Japan on January 23, 2021. Unfortunately, that is also getting delayed as explained earlier.
Four prefectures in Japan have declared a new state of emergency, and they are Tokyo, Saitama, Kanagawa, and Chiba. They announced the state of emergency because of a recent spike in COVID-19 infections in the area. The planned state of emergency will last from January 8 until February 7, 2021. This has forced the movie’s distributors to delay the movie once again.
Studio Khara will once again be animating the movie, with creator Hideaki Anno (Shin Godzilla) also returning to direct it as well. Hideaki Anno’s Studio Khara announced the film back in 2012. Unfortunately, Anno’s personal issues, as well as other issues, kept pushing the film back.
