The Broadcasting Ethics & Program Improvement Organization (BPO) has scrutinized plenty of controversial anime. People have filed complaints against several anime titles to them . These include Goblin Slayer, Scum’s Wish, , Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, SHIMONETA: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist, and Magical Girl Site. In short, they often receive complaints from viewers about anime with high violent or sexual content. Unsurprisingly, there is one anime this season with copious amounts of both… Redo of Healer.
Saying that Redo of Healer is controversial may be a bit of an understatement. And during their 231st Youth Committee meeting, they addressed the series. It noted that it had received complaints regarding an anime with high violent and sexual content, including scenes involving sexual assault. The complaints voiced its concern about influencing the youth, and many have dubbed it as “immoral” and “not suitable for broadcast, even if it is aired in late night”. These comments are mainly from viewers, and not necessarily from members of BPO itself, which means they don’t reflect the members’ opinions regarding the anime.
Because the complaints were so overwhelming, they discussed the show itself. However, it seems that opinions regarding the series are mixed. There were those echoing the talking points about children stumbling into the show and thinking that the protagonist’s acts are good, and there are also defenders who say that it’s ok because its late night timeslot is enough.
