After months of anticipation, Universal Studios Japan in Osaka has finally announced when the Super Nintendo World will open. It will be opening its doors to the public on March 18, 2021. They originally planned the opening last July 2020, but delayed it due to Japan’s state of emergency. Another COVID-19 outbreak would push back the opening yet again, the latest being February 4, 2021.
The Super Nintendo World area will first open with the “Super Mario Kart Ride” and “Yoshi’s Adventures,” and will add more attractions soon. In addition, the area will also have the Kinopio’s Cafe for guests to enjoy Nintendo-themed food and beverages, as well as the 1-UP factory store which sells special Nintendo merchandise. Animatronic characters will also be littered around the park so it really gives us the feel that we are in the world of Mario.
Universal Parks and Resorts has launched an initiative with Nintendo to add attractions based on the company’s various video games. Universal Studios Japan’s new Super Nintendo World is just part of that larger initiative. Expect them to reveal more attractions not only in USJ, but in their other parks as well.
