Reki Kawahara’s Sword Art Online: Progressive light novel series is getting its own anime movie, The film will focus on Kirito’s other adventures in Aincrad before they escaped the game. Its official title is Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night Past & Future. And during the Aniplex Online Fest stream event, they revealed the movie’s main visual:
The new main visual not only features Kirito and Asuna, but also a new character named Mito. Inori Minase will be voicing her for the movie. The visual also announces that it will be making its premiere in Japan on October 30, 2021.
As for its Southeast Asian release, Odex Private Ltd. has confirmed that it will be showing here in our region, including Singapore and Philippines.
Sword Art Online Progressive is a retelling of the Aincrad arc, the first storyline in the light novel series. Reki Kawahara wrote them himself, with each floor getting its own story. As for the movie itself, it adapts the first book in the series. More specifically, the first chapter of the first book of the light novels. Ayako Kawano will be directing the movie, with Kento Toya returning as character designer.
